The Screen Guide

Sam Hunt is tall, loud and hard-drinking. He is also New Zealand's best-known poet. He survives on his outlandish image and spirited public performances, but the depth and sensitivity that fill his poetry come from a different man - a sensitive and romantic soul. A sense of humour and a love of the land and of people are common to 'both Sams', and his great achievement is in giving New Zealanders a sense of their own unique identity.
