Force of Nature: The Dry 2 – behind the scenes

The creative team and cast talk about their battle with leeches and the natural elements in making Force of Nature: The Dry 2.

After the phenomenal success of The Dry, detective Aaron Falk makes his return to the big screen in Force of Nature: The Dry 2. For this sequel, the location of the arid, dry plains of central Australia have been replaced with the dense, wet rainforest of the Dandenong Ranges which proved the greatest challenge for all involved.

“It rained for 80% of our shoot,” confesses writer, producer and director Robert Connolly.

Further to this, the production was filmed during winter, adding another level of realism for the cast.

“There was no acting required,” explains actress Deborra-Lee Furness. “We were cold. We were frustrated… It just made you very present and be in-the-moment which I love as an actor.”

In this series of behind-the-scenes videos, actresses Deborra-Lee Furness and Jacqueline McKenzie talk about their many encounters with leeches; author Jane Harper and producer Jodi Matterson discuss the process of adaptation and location challenges; and Robert Connolly and Eric Bana reveal how they got lost during pre-production trying to find suitable locations to film in.

Force of Nature: The Dry 2 is released in cinemas nationally 8 February 2024.
