Applications open for General Drama, Children’s Programs and Feature Film Productions
A new funding round is now open for General Drama, Children’s Programs, and Feature Film Production.
Screen Australia has updated the guidelines for each of these funding programs to ensure we are responding to the challenges of financing and producing Australian drama.
Some of the changes include increasing our funding threshold and raising the minimum licence fee for Australian TV projects for the first time in twelve years.

General Drama and Children’s Program Guidelines
Key changes include:
- Total Screen Australia funding threshold (including Offset) has increased from 40% to 45%, and from 45% to 50% for Children’s TV
- Preference will be given to projects based on intellectual property created by Australians
- The minimum licence fee both General Drama and Children’s TV will be raised commencing 1 January 2024, this also applies to the First Nations Department TV Drama Production guidelines
- The additional requirements for a disbursement administrator be appointed in all territories for projects funded via a recoupable equity investment
Applications open 12 September and close at 5pm on 16 November 2023.

Feature Film Production Guidelines
Key changes include:
- Screen Australia will consider waiving the requirement for an offer from a ROW sales agent for execution-dependent projects with an application for $500,000 or less (on a case-by-case basis)
- Screen Australia has phased out its practice of providing Letters of Interest
- Preference will be given to projects based on intellectual property created by Australians
