Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival
Japan
Documentary
This is a biennial event.
The Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival has been held once every two years since 1989. Yamagata, far north of Tokyo, is a quiet town surrounded by the mountains. Compared to big city film festivals that tend to be buried under the city’s distractions, our festival allows participants to concentrate on the festival and encourages deeper exchanges among the participants, creating a sort of film community. The local traditional foods and the people’s hospitality have impressed the visitors. Besides, participants have had good opportunities to see the Asian works and discuss cinema with Asian filmmakers.
