An Australian woman, a talented violinist, lives far away from home in a small Munich apartment. Her husband, a world-renowned biologist, is about to return from his latest expedition in the strange jungles of the island of Saint Spite-Phoenix. Having come across a mysterious specimen, the rare fish Nausicaana ostentatiatum, he asks his ever-devoted wife to take care of it on his behalf. Despite being nine months pregnant and busy practising violin for the orchestra, she agrees – and, soon, she and this biological oddity develop a strange connection.
