The Screen Guide

Although the story is set in the 18th century, this is not an 'historical' film, but rather it uses the mirror of the past to highlight the obsessions of today, concerning female independence, civilisation against nature and freedom from responsibility. Ten female convicts escape into the wilderness and form a colony of their own but they are relentlessly tracked by the authorities.
