The Screen Guide

The Bicentenary of Matthew Flinders and his French rival Nicolas Baudin's momentous voyages that resulted in the first circumnavigation and comprehensive exploration of the Australian coastline, was celebrated in 2002. The two voyagers were both extremely important in Australia eventually becoming a single nation - Federation occuring exactly 100 years after the voyages proved New Holland and New South Wales were actually part of the same single continent. The program is a fascinating and intimate tale about two extraordinary men and will be told by the public broadcaster in the national interest.
