In the bleak winter of 1942 three women are strangled in Melbourne. An American soldier is seen fleeing from the scene of the first crime. General Douglas Macarthur orders the murderer to be found, tried by court martial and hanged. Private Leonski confesses, and though he is found to be insane, is condemned to death by the American court martial.
