The Screen Guide

This moving film is told through the lens of two women and explores what could happen if a teenage runaway is shown kindness by a stranger in the pivotal time in her life. If she hadn’t been self-destructive, Angie Cowper would have been one of Australia’s leading performers. Now in her forties, she finds herself terminally ill and alone and struggling financially. Angie then meets Ruby, a seventeen year-old, who is running away from an explosive domestic situation. The two women form an unlikely friendship as Angie teaches Ruby how to play guitar and to write songs as a way to heal. Three Chords and The Truth is inspired by the real life singer/songwriter Jackie Marshall who’s poetic lyrics and masterful musicianship provide the audience with a sense of hope and possibility.
