Cinema attendance by age group, 1995, 1999, 2006

Young people in particular favour cinema, with 93 per cent of 15–17 year olds and 85 per cent of 18–24 year olds going to the movies at least once in the 12 months to June 2006. Attendance rates decline with age, dropping to 45 per cent for people aged 65–74 and 27 per cent for people aged 75 and over. However, going to the cinema is still the most popular cultural activity for the 65–74 age group, and the second most popular for people 75 years and over (after libraries).
