Three Documentaries to receive Development Funding through Screen Australia and AIDC’s Fresh Cuts Initiative

Screen Australia and the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) have announced the three finalists of the Fresh Cuts Documentary Pitch Initiative who will receive development funding for their projects – Paradise Camp: Homecoming, In/Out, and Fridge Foraging.

The initiative, aimed at supporting documentaries that appeal to younger audiences, saw the teams pitch to a panel of industry experts live at AIDC 2024 and the winners were announced at the AIDC Awards presentation on Wednesday.

The teams will each receive up to $30,000 of development funding from Screen Australia. The successful projects are:

  • Paradise Camp: Homecoming: Acclaimed Fa’afafine artist, Yuki Kihara brings her Venice Biennale exhibition Paradise Camp home to Sāmoa, audaciously confronting climate action, colonialism, and gender identity. She is transforming Sāmoa into a Fa’afafine Paradise. This project is co-directed by Yuki Kihara and Keiran McGee, produced by Keiran McGee.
  • In/Out: A young lesbian navigates her first boyfriend, and coming out, all over again. Directed and produced by Allison Brownmoore.
  • Fridge Foraging: Join the delightful chef Niccola Mudge as she takes us inside the fridges – and lives – of some incredible Australians, to create the best out of best-before. This project is directed by Niccola Mudge and Bree Sanders, and produced by Leeanne Torpey.
