Sandy George partners with Screen Australia to share market intelligence

Highly regarded screen journalist Sandy George looks to work with practitioners with market intelligence on all aspects of current financing in the film, television and online environment.

Sandy will work alongside Screen Australia’s Research Manager, Rebecca Mostyn, to provide the sector with robust information and insights to better equip the industry to source finance, achieve more advantageous deals and, ultimately, get more projects into production and in front of audiences.

Sandy will draw on her extensive contacts outside the agency too. She may, for example, profile buyers and distributors, or deliver information particularly aimed at getting talented emerging practitioners up to speed.

Sandy will commence working on the project on 9 September 2015 and will work from the Melbourne offices of Screen Australia on a part-time basis. Her ‘Market Intel’ analysis will be hosted on The Screen Blog*.

“It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Australian content and fundamentally believe that the viewing landscape would be pretty bleak without it,” says Sandy George. “Right now it’s like the wild west for all writers, directors and producers and I see this information-sharing role as a big opportunity to use my skills to try and assist those who live and work in Australia."

“And yes I realise the irony of using the term 'wild west' given it originated in the US, and that country’s pervasive impact on global culture is obvious”.

Sandy George’s appointment is separate to the positions currently being recruited in Screen Australia’s Communications Department.
