Screen Australia launches new Audience Design Initiative

Screen Australia has launched a new Audience Design Initiative, supporting mid-career producers and/or key creative teams to gain an increased understanding of audiences within the globally competitive feature film marketplace, enabling them to effectively advance their scripted feature film projects.

All potential applicants, and anyone with a feature film in development, are encouraged to attend the nationwide webinar on Tuesday 23 April to find out more about audience design strategies for scripted feature films, before submitting their application. Registration details provided below.

Five mid-career producers and/or key creative teams will be selected to take part in individual two-day workshops in Sydney with Irish specialist Síle Culley, and will have the opportunity to work on the positioning of their film in relation to audiences.

Screen Australia will pay for travel and accommodation for successful participants residing outside of Sydney, within Australia. Please note that only two members of a successful team are able to attend the workshops.

To apply, applicants must:

  • meet all requirements and conditions in our Terms of Trade
  • be a key creative who has mid to high level experience in episodic or one-off productions in the screen sector (television, feature films) that have been produced and distributed to audiences
  • have an active slate of feature film projects in development
  • have participated in or viewed the recording of the webinar
  • be available to attend workshops in Sydney that will occur between 30 May to 14 June 2024, with specific dates to be coordinated with successful applicants/teams.

Applicants are required to attend or view the recording of the webinar. It will be hosted by Audience Design Facilitator Síle Culley, Screen Australia’s Head of Development Bobby Romia, and Distribution Manager Anthony Grundy. The session will cover what audience design is and how to use it and will provide an overview of the Audience Design Initiative, as well as tips for making a competitive application.
