The Screen Guide

BRUSHES WITH FAME follows nine of Australia's finest artists making paintings for the Archibald Prize. Fame and controversy go hand in hand with the Archibald, now in it's 76th year. The film begins with Wendy Sharpe's win in 1996, and finishes with Nigel Thomson's win in 1997. The story takes us into artists' studios and behind the scenes into the final moments of the judging. The Archibald Prize is unique in the world and has become a social and cultural register of who we are in Australia.
