The Screen Guide

The frigate HMAS Diamantina was the Grand Old Lady of the Australian Navy. In 35 years of service, she fought the Japanese, explored the oceans, and gave young sailors their first taste of life at sea. Paid-off Navy ships are usually towed away to the scrap yard, but the Diamantina was given to the Queensland Maritime Museum. 'A Big Country' joined Commander Maurie Rose, who had taken her to war, on the last voyage of a grand old warship.
