The Screen Guide

This episode looks at mental illness, and the different approaches to it in various countries. In the USA, most patients are turned out on the streets with little pschiatric help; in India, the family plays a central role in patient care; and in Italy, where mental illness has often been seen as possession by the devil, a new, humane approach is being developed. Comments are presented by American psychiatrist Dr. Alan Felix; and by psychiatrist and anthropologist Arthur Kleinman in India.
