The Screen Guide

Australia's art world was shocked last year when its rising star, Howard Arkley, died of a drug overdose. Fresh from his triumph at the Venice Biennale, Arkley had the world at his feet. HOWARD'S WAY builds on TV interviews taken just before his death and is combined with interviews with fellow artists to present a poetic and emotional voyage through an Arkley landscape of minimalism and abstraction. The production employs Arkley's methods of parody and play to examine Arkley's place in the pantheon of Australian visual art. Always the outsider, in this documentary Arkley reveals the methods and reasoning behind some of Australia's most celebrated contemporary art icons.
