The Screen Guide

In 1975 this way of life was passing, as lighthouses were being shut down or automated. The government would take the families off and so end the difficult job of supplying these remote stations. The end was approaching for lighthouse keepers like John Cook. Lighthouse keeping as a profession would be forced into obsolescence and the unique way of life would end. John Cook's job, his vocation, was about to be taken away from him.
