The Screen Guide

The courage and determination of a small band of 19th-century Italian pioneers is recalled at a huge centenary celebration on the north coast of New South Wales. One hundred years ago, a group of Italians left home to form a colony on an island off New Guinea. It was a disaster, and many of them died. The survivors settled on the northern coast of New South Wales, and called their thriving colony 'Little Italy'. But eventually it collapsed, until only Giacomo Picoli remained. In 1980, the descendents of the original pioneers returned to Little Italy to treat Giacomo to a huge reunion.
