The Screen Guide

The story of the most famous site in world archaeology, presented to mark the opening of the 'Pompeii AD '79' exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, on June 26, 1980. Nineteen hundred years earlier, the prosperous and bustling city of Pompeii ceased to exist, when it was caught in the cataclysmic volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius and quickly buried under many metres of ash and debris, its population suffocated by poisonous gases. The program is hosted and narrated by well-known actor and personality Stuart Wagstaff.
