The Screen Guide

Explores the late John Cage's concept of indeterminacy by juxtaposing the image of an ordinary television set sitting on a table playing a dull program and quiet, low key shots of the surrounding room/window with a quite aggressive sounding text. This text I created by using only five letter words and having these read by two different painter friends. I layered and mixed these onto the sound stripes of the film so that there are rich shifts across the speakers. Some words emerge, some become mere textures. Nouns and adjectives which emerge are ordinary.
