The Screen Guide

The New South Wales coal industry is centred in the Hunter Valley, where the industry began, 180 years ago. Until now, coal was only mined in small quantities, and the valley was primarily an agricultural area. Now the valley is being changed by huge open-cut mines, power stations, heavy industry and conversion plants. The change means new jobs and big money for former rural workers like dairy farmer Nev Collins, who has swapped his cows for a coal truck.
