The Screen Guide

This view of the daily life of travelling show people is seen through the eyes of the Bell family. It retraces the early hisotry of Roy Bell's Touring Boxing Stadium through the memories of his existing family: Amy his wife, now 80-years-old; his two sons Arnold and Elwin; and his daughter Nita. SHOWMEN looks at how one show family has survived four generations of travelling on the road and has adapted to change in the industry. From the early tent side show days to the modern carnival of thrill rides and Knock 'em Down games, the Bells have endured the lot and now own 'ground space' at most of the major Australian country shows.
