The Screen Guide

Home alone for the weekend, Xavier enlists the help of his friend Sean to bury a dead fox that he found drowned at the bottom of his dad’s near-empty pool. Realising that the hole he’s dug is too shallow, Xavier suggests they burn it instead, but Sean takes issue with the plan and the two friends come to blows. Spontaneous Combustion is based on a true story and filmed at the location where the real event happened. Xavier and Sean represent two sides of the same coin: both are young adolescent males, but each has a very different method for dealing with conflict. The term ‘spontaneous combustion’ comes to stand for more than just the chemical phenomenon.
