The Screen Guide

A profile of the Australian branch of the Chinese spiritual movement called Falun Gong, a practice that combines elements of Buddhism, Taoism and martial arts. In China, where it began in 1992, it has had remarkable growth and is estimated to have millions of followers. In July 1999 it was outlawed in China and was branded by the Chinese Government an evil cult and a threat to their society. Although the movement in Australia is still small its members are very vocal and visible in their protests about the persecution in China. In this program we meet devotees of Falun Gong, look at what they believe and examine why there has been such a brutal crackdown in China.
