The Screen Guide

THE ISTER is a journey up the Danube river, from the mouth in Romania to the Black Forest in Germany. The film is based on a lecture course by Martin Heidegger delivered in 1942, focusing a poem by Friedrich Hoelderlin called THE ISTER‚ about the Danube river. Four of Europe's most challenging thinkers and artists guide us on this journey up Danube: the filmmaker Hans-Juergen Syberberg, and the philosophers Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe, Jean-Luc Nancy and Bernard Stiegler.
