When New Zealanders moved into the Australian shearing industry, in the wake of the wide-comb dispute, there was ignorance and arrogance on both sides. Unscrupulous contractors tookadvantage of the Kiwis, and Aussies dubbed them scabs. Within the decade, Maoris made up over 40 percent of shearers working in Australia. This program looks at life in a Maori shed in Cavendish, in western Victoria. Rewi Taurau is the overseer, and his team includes 'gun' shearers Samson and Wilson Te Whata. This is the story of a group of shearers who treasure their skills and dedication in an industry that has seen better days.
