The Screen Guide

This is a film about Australians who have a special relationship with Japan through war. Norman Sparnon is an Australian, but also an Ikebana Master, decorated by Emperor Hirohito. Kenneth Wybrow is an Australian living in Tokyo. He fights for the recognition of the children of Australian soldier fathers and Japanese mothers. Cherry Parker became a celebrity when she arrived in Australia in 1952 as the first Japanese War bride. She had fallen in love with Gordon, an Australian soldier on his first day in Japan. Forty years later, the Parkers are proof of a successful marriage between Australia and Japan.
