The Screen Guide

We revisit geographic spaces to trigger memory. It might be the school we went to as a child, or maybe the family home. If these spaces no longer exist, we instead have a sense of lacking - of 'returning to nothing'. OPEN CUT was borne out of the need to remember, and in the absence of a geographic space, to create a virtual one ... a virtual Yallourn. Using extensive archival recordings of this once model town, filmmaker Phil Burke revisits his home town of Yallourn and explores some of the issues which led to its destruction.
