The Screen Guide

All over Australia, there are 'Big' tourist attractions - The Big Banana, the Big Bull, The Big Merino. Are they a tacky eyesore, or the fun face of tourism? Since the Big Banana grew in Coffs Harbour in 1964, Australia has been invaded by over 60 big things. This program takes a light-hearted look at some examples, through the eyes of the people who made them. The Mokany Brothers, Attila and Louie, spent millions on the Big Oyster at Taree, the Big Prawn at Ballina, and the Big Merino at Goulburn. Dairy farmer John Eggert, of Wauchope, built the Big Bull. And there are admirers such as Brian Carter, who sees them as unique Australian symbols of 'sculptured optimism'.
