Screen Australia travel grants to attend WCSFP in Washington

Screen Australia is offering travel grants for producers travelling to this year's World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP), November 2012 in Washington.

The WCSFP is a member-run organisation representing science and other factual producers and broadcasters around the world. Held in different cities annually, 2012 will be the 20th congress and is supported by host broadcasters Discovery Channel and Science Channel.

It will feature a three-day program of workshops, networking events, pitching sessions and panels. Last year’s event hosted nearly 700 attendees from 31 countries in a two-to-one ratio of independent producers to broadcasters. Representatives are expected from Discovery Channel, Science Channel, ARTE, ABC, BBC, CBC, Channel 4, France Télévisions, MDR, National Geographic, NDR, NHK, Rai, WGBH, Thirteen/WNET, YLE and ZDF.

Applicants can apply for up to $3,000 towards their travel expenses. Producers must have a reasonable body of completed, produced and released projects, commensurate with their level of experience, to showcase their talent and ability. Additionally they must have at least two active projects in development. In the case of more experienced producers, a slate of projects is preferable, at least one of which has secured 25 per cent of its budget.

Travel assistance guidelines and application forms, outlining all eligibility criteria, are available to download from the Screen Australia website.

The deadline for applications is Friday 28 September 2012.
