Aussie films set for Sitges Fantastic Film Fest

Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia has selected two Australian films for its 2012 October line-up in Spain.

Feature film Crawlspace (w/d/p: Justin Dix) will have its international festival premiere in competition in Official Fantàstic Panorama. It tells the story of a special forces unit who uncover some secrets in an underground military base. This is Justin’s first feature film and it was successfully presented to the market at Cannes this year.

Short stop-motion animation Butterflies (w/d: Isabel Peppard, w/p: Warwick Burton) will have its international premiere after its screening at this year’s Melbourne International Film Festival. Voiced by Rachel Griffiths with Nicholas Hope, it tells the tale of a young artist struggling to make a living by drawing passersby.

Sitges offers an annual rendezvous for fantastic film lovers and creators, and is one of the world’s leading genre film festivals, annually attracting 110,000 visitors plus 700 industry attendees.
