Updated and revised guidelines for Story Development

Screen Australia’s revised Story Development Guidelines will streamline application processes commencing 1 July 2023.

In a step towards simplifying application processes, the revised Story Development guidelines will now allow Australian screen content makers to complete one-stage development applications for quick turnaround of decisions and feedback.

Story Development will continue to function under the existing two program strands — the Generate Fund and Premium Fund — without the requirement or the waiting time of a two-stage assessment.

In addition to this, the newly formed Online Development Fund supports the development of projects created for online platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. Extended Reality (XR) projects will also be eligible to apply for Online development through this fund. Online and XR projects will no longer be eligible to apply through Generate or Premium Story Development.

Development programs will close at 5pm AEST 1 June 2023 and relaunch on 1 July 2023 with new guidelines, FAQs and application forms to access.

Please see attached interim FAQs for any questions about the transition, and email [email protected] for further questions.
