Aussie Docs selected for IDFA

Australian documentaries Snow Monkey and Only the Dead have been selected for the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Snow Monkey will compete for Best Feature Length Documentary at the festival and Only the Dead will screen out of competition in the Best of Fests section.

George Gittoes’ Snow Monkey is filmed in Afghanistan and follows three gangs of children: the Ghostbusters, the Snow Monkeys and the Gangsters. Told through the lives of these kids, the doco is a portrait of unseen Afghan politics, culture and society.

Filmed in Iraq over the seven years following 11 September 2001 - when co-director Michael Ware lived and worked as a journalist in Iraq - Only the Dead details the rise of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the man who founded al-Qaeda.

Snow Monkey and Only the Dead are Screen Australia-funded.
