The film continues to screen in more than 30 cinema locations this week and is now only the fourth Australian feature documentary (excluding IMAX) ever to have passed the $1 million box office threshold.

Graeme Mason, CEO of Screen Australia says: “What a thrill to see this truly spectacular Australian documentary resonating so strongly with audiences both here and abroad. Not only is it terrific that Australians are flocking to see Sherpa in local cinemas, but it’s also really exciting that audiences in 220 countries have also had the chance to see it in the past few weeks. This is an exceptional result and we offer our congratulations to director Jennifer Peedom , producer Bridget Ikin and all involved in the project.”

Screen Australia initially supported the film through the Documentary Development program. The film then received funding through the agency’s Feature Film Production Fund, as well as support to attend international festivals and awards.
