Aunty Donna: behind the scenes

Meet the six members of the comedy troupe Aunty Donna and get a glimpse into their new series Glennridge Secondary College.

With their latest web series, Aunty Donna of 1999 fame are again raising the bar for themselves.

The group – made up of Zachary Ruane, Broden Kelly, Mark Bonanno, Sam Lingham, Tom Armstrong and Max Miller – run through their different roles, break down how they shoot their comedy, and reveal how Glennridge Secondary College branches into new territory.

The web series, adapted from their popular live show, features new material, cameos from comedians ranging from Shaun Micallef to Kate McLennan, and even three animated sketches. “It’s a new venture for us – (it’s) really scary but also really exciting,” Kelly says.

Ruane adds that they’ve been able to develop a very distinct voice on YouTube.

“You can be alternative. You can cut through to your core audience and you can make a living out of it,” he says.

And they want to help others do the same. They’ve started a new production company – Haven’t You Done Well Productions – with Glennridge Secondary College being their first project.

Bonanno says: “We don’t only want to be making our stuff… we want Haven’t You Done Well to be a place where young artists can come and we can sort of mentor and help them get their projects up of the ground and give back in that way.”
