Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story – Behind the Scenes

Writer and producer Bethany Jones discusses the life and times of Michael Gudinski in the new feature documentary, Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story.

Bethany Jones worked with legendary record executive and promoter Michael Gudinski for years at Mushroom Records and fondly remembers his exuberance and energy he brought to each and every musical endeavour he put his mind to. However, during production on the new feature documentary about Gudinski, she uncovered a different side of him that surprised her.

“The most surprising revelation that I learned while making this feature documentary about Michael was that he was actually quite shy,” Jones admits. “It’s not a side of Michael that I had seen working with him.”

In this behind-the-scenes video, Jones discusses rallying global music royalty such as Sting, Bruce Springsteen and Kylie Minogue to be interviewed for the documentary, the creative choices for the motion graphics and the challenge of sourcing and organising archival footage.

Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story is released nationally in selected cinemas from 31 August, 2023.
