This documentary portrays the life and works of Lin Onus, one of Australia's most important contemporary artists, who suddenly died of a heart attack on 26 October 1996. He was 47. LIN ONUS - BRIDGE BETWEEN CULTURES is based on an extensive interview with the artist, filmed the year before he died. Lin had a Scottish mother and an Aboriginal father who ran the first Aboriginal owned souvenir shop in Victoria in the 1950s, but he took this further with his own fine art practice through his paintings and sculptures. It was from his father that Lin learned that Aboriginal people were not second class citizens. Throughout the program, Lin talks about his struggle with his identity and how he overcame that struggle as he worked with his art. His works raise many serious issues, but they are also full of his sense of humour. 'He was one of the key people in bringing about a change in perception of what had been disparagingly referred to as urban Aboriginal art', says Lin's close friend and Aboriginal activist, Gary Foley.
