BEHAVIOURS AND ATTITUDES OF DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS

DISCOVERY OF CONTENT

VOD viewers aged under 35 are more likely than older viewers to hear about movies and TV shows via online sources such as:

  • Recommendations from friends and family sent via social media
  • Online advertising
  • Recommendations based on past choices from a VOD platform
  •  Suggestion lists or ‘listicles’
  • Social media personalities and bloggers.

The greatest source of discovery amongst both age groups remains talking directly to friends and family – usually described as traditional ‘word of mouth’. Interestingly, this method of content discovery  was also strong amongst under 35s, highlighting the value of the in-person opinions of those closest to us - despite the attraction and convenience of online sources.
