I Am Woman: behind the scenes

Director Unjoo Moon and lead actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey discuss the making of the new Australian biopic I Am Woman.

Celebrating the life and times of singer Helen Reddy, I Am Woman is the new feature film from director Unjoo Moon.

In this behind the scenes video, Moon and producer Rosemary Blight both describe the long process of casting the leading role.

“We looked high and low for our Helen. We went around the world and just weren’t finding the essence,” Blight explains.

A meeting between Moon and Tilda Cobham-Hervey changed all that in an instant.

“I think I pretty much knew as soon as I sat down with her that we had found our Helen,” says Moon.

This making-of video also features interviews with DOP Dion Beebe who talks about the challenges of recreating New York and Los Angeles (circa 70s & 80s) on location in Sydney, as well as screenwriter Emma Jensen who reveals her admiration for the woman Reddy was.

Watch I Am Woman exclusively in Australia on Stan from 28 August 2020.
