Rams: behind the scenes

Director Jeremy Sims discusses how fortune played a part in this behind the scenes look at his new feature film, Rams.

Adapted from the hit Icelandic film Hrútar that was released in 2015, Rams brings the classic feuding brothers saga to the big screen with a distinct Aussie flavour.

“The producers Aidan O’Bryan and Janelle Landers approached the filmmaker [of Hrútar] and asked him if they’d be interested in maybe selling the rights to remake it in English,” explains Sims. “From very early on we all agreed that if we were going to do it, we wouldn’t remake it in the style of the original one. That we would find a different way to tell that saga.”

This meant swapping the cold Icelandic land for the wide sunburnt outback of regional Western Australia and including the threat of bushfires, which actually occurred nearby during filming.

Rams is released by Roadshow in Australian cinemas from 29 October 2020.
