Sydney Films’ Head of Production Mark Lazarus gives his advice on making an Official Co-production with China.

Lazarus was previously Head of Creative and Acquisitions at Arclight Films, where he produced Guardians of the Tomb, a Chinese/Australian Official Co-production that starred Li Bingbing, Kelsey Grammer and Stef Dawson.

He talks with journalist Caris Bizzaca about some of the complexities of making an Official Co-production – and one with China – as well as the benefits, what “hurt” money is, and what to do if you’re interested in working in this particular area.

See the Chinese/Australian Official Co-production page here – and learn more about filmmaking with China in a more general sense from this Ausfilm interview with Perfect Village Entertainment CEO and producer Ellen Eliasoph, who worked on Australian-shot Jackie Chan feature Bleeding Steel.
