Liz Watts on producing

The producer of Animal Kingdom, The King and True History of the Kelly Gang shares her insights on producing.

Reflecting on a career that has spanned more than two decades, Liz Watts reveals why she became a producer after years of working as a camera assistant and what aspects of the trade she enjoys the most.

“I wanted to produce because I wanted to be involved in not just the shoot. I wanted to be involved in the development and working with writers and directors… overseeing the whole thing. I didn’t want to be in one part of the process and not the other,” she says.

In this wide-ranging interview, Liz discusses the impact Animal Kingdom had on not only her career but everyone involved, her experience working with Stan (True History of the Kelly Gang) and the challenges modern producers face in both film and television.
