Azita Damandan

Azita Damandan

Azita Damandan started her screen journey making short films in Iran without any formal training. Her shorts won national awards and international recognition. She worked as First Assistant Director assistant in films and TV with many well-known directors including Oscar winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi. Azita worked as a journalist for 7 years and made films for big organisations such as the Ministry of Health and UNISEF before leaving Iran for Australia. Since relocating she has made a number of award winning short films - ‘Lullaby’ (2009); ‘Silence’ (2013); ‘Untold’ (2017); ‘Unseen’ (2020), ‘Mourners’ (2020), ‘Way Out’ 2020’. Her most recent short projects are ‘Mirror’ and ‘The Sour Grapes’ (2023) and work is in progress on feature documentary ‘Break a leg Charlie, Talk!’ Azita has her own company Red Geranium Productions. Her first feature ‘Mourners’ is an anthology of 5 short poetic stories about dictatorship and oppressive regimes around the world and their impact on innocent people.
