International Strategic Delegations


15-21 SEPTEMBER 2019


  • To assist Australian screen creatives with outcomes for professional development and sustainable careers and to attract international investment and partnerships for Australian content
  • To promote and support practitioners who will increase gender equity, diversity and inclusion both within the Australian screen industry and via their screen content.


  • Applicants must meet our Terms of Trade 
  • Applicants must have at least one of the following:
  • a ‘created by’, ‘written by’ or ‘directed by’ credit on a drama, comedy or animated series or feature that:
    - has been recently (last 3 years) screened on broadcast television, or streamed on a subscription based platform, and having been 1 of the top 10 most-watched shows on that platform at time of broadcast; or
    - online on any reportable platform, with evidence of audiences/views in excess of 1 million or other evidence of trending on You Tube at time of release
  • a ‘written by’ or ‘directed by’ credit of a scripted or documentary feature, series or VR film that:
    - has been recently (last 3 years) premiered in official selection at Cannes, Toronto, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, SXSW, Series Mania festivals, or
    - that has recently (last 3 years) been distributed and theatrically released in multiple major international territories
  • directors / writers who have recently (last 3 years) been a recipient of a significant international award for short films such as awards from Cannes, Toronto, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, SXSW festivals or been nominated for Academy, BAFTA, Emmy awards
  • Screenwriters who have been a recipient of a significant international screenwriting award, such as Black List, PAGE or Academy Nicholl fellowship, or who are part of the Australian Writers’ Guild Pathways Prime or Showcase cohort are encouraged to apply
  • In addition, applicants must
  • have one or more market ready long form episodic series well suited for US partnerships
  • have some traction internationally from completed work and some existing experience and interest from US industry


  • Up to 10 delegates will be selected for up to $3,000 for each person towards travel to LA
  • Successful applicants will also be provided with up to seven nights of accommodation in West Hollywood
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to think about staying longer in the US, perhaps to follow up with introductions and opportunities made during the Talent LA week as well as other 1:1 meetings set up in advance of the trip.

The deadline to apply is 5pm AEST on Wednesday, July 3 2019.  

Applications can be made through the Application Portal with the following materials:

  • A CV including recent credits and details of any commercial, significant viewership and/or major festival or awards success.  
  • ​A proposal (maximum 6 pages) that includes:
  • Details on your current slate of projects that will be pitched at the event, including for each title: the stage of development or production; the budget and the currently secured finance; and, the currently secured key creative and marketplace attachments or interest   
  • A detailed proposed meeting list with reason and desired outcomes of each meeting  
  • Any desired professional development objectives and activities.

Eligible applications will be considered by a Screen Australia staff member and/or industry specialists as required.

Funding decisions will be made against the following criteria:

  • The strength of the proposal and the applicant’s CV and experience and knowledge pertinent to the strategic delegation. 
  • Successful applicants will be notified by 19 July.
